Salsa Mexican Grill, Pineslopes, Johannesburg. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve been here. By far the best Mexican restaurant in the north of Johannesburg. The staff are very friendly and are always floating around and the owner George also makes an appearance and greets all guests. All Mexican playlist and occasionally there are free shots for everyone on George. Chef Melusi makes an appearance every once in a while, to check if his food is being enjoyed. My all-time favourites are the nachos with the pulled pork, stuffed jalapenos poppers. Check them out, you will not regret it. Follow them on Instagram
The Blue Orchid – This beauty is nestled high in the volcanic peaks of St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands, and has a very breath-taking view, 1200 feet above sea level, overlooking fourteen islands and the gorgeous waters of the Caribbean Sea. When you order a Blue sapphire martini, you get a blue sapphire which is really incredible. The chef prepares new creations all the time, but their seafood is like none I’ve tasted before. Their steaks and pastas are also a definite must-try…. I practically felt like I was going to roll out of the establishment. If you make your way towards the Virgin Islands, do yourself a favour and try The Blue Orchid. Follow them on Facebook.
Bamboo, St Maarten – I’ve always heard great reviews about this place so when I was in St Maarten, I thought let’s see this proof in their pudding, and I was pleasantly surprised. This award-winning place has been selected Best Sushi in St. Maarten for 15 years straight and I can understand why. They blend contemporary Latin and Asian flavours which are so complex and innovative. They serve lunch and dinner and feature late night dining on weekends. The cocktails are phenomenal, and the vibe is magnetic. I’d give them 5 stars for the outstanding food, exceptional service and atmosphere. Follow them on Instagram.
Elcamnio, Florida Fort Lauderdale – Brilliant Mexican restaurant, and they serve tequila only found in Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. The food is freshly prepared, the salsa is indescribable, and I have no words for their 15 – hour brisket…. falls off the bone. Service is something that speaks volumes to me and theirs is on point, even though they are constantly packed. On that note, I must caution you to make reservations. This is a definite top destination Mexican restaurant. Follow them on Facebook.
Milk & Honey is a upmarket elegant champagne bar situated in Monte Casino. Their décor is modern chic with a touch of retro artwork. To beat the traffic after work this is the perfect spot to meet up with friends, and have one of their handcrafted designer cocktails. If cocktails are not for you, they offer fine single malts with a variety of champagnes and wines. To set the mood there is a DJ on the decks every evening and array of well-trained servers at your beck and call. The variety of platters are tailor made to suit everybody’s culinary needs. The meal that stands out for me is the mac & cheese lobster. They are open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner. Follow them on Instagram
