Marc’s Eatery, Maun Botswana – I’ve had several weight-loss diets and some just to stay healthy. There was a point when all I’d all order would be a salad. This was the case when I visited Maun, Botswana. Maun is a lush wildlife habitat during the seasonal floods. In the delta, safari camps dot the Moremi Game Reserve, which is home to hippos, lions and rhinos. After having my Mediterranean salad-creamy goats milk feta, avocado, marinated roast peppers, tomato and olives served on a bed of rocket and lettuce with a vinaigrette dressing- I had sushi as we waited for our ride to see in the wildlife. The restaurant has a home setting, with picture frames on the wall and home-like chairs. The best parts- all the food costs under P100.00, efficient service, visibly happy staff and the warm African sun hits on the right spots. They also have a small deli where you can buy nibbles for the road. Follow them on Instagram.
The Library – Wellington is a retro, jazzy reading space and lounge bar amid New Zealand’s hustle and bustle. Hidden upstairs, the Library isn’t easily stumbled on, but once discovered it is like being transported to another time. With the finest artisan drinks, combined for desserts to please every sweet tooth. My favourite is the sea salt and caramel fudge martini, made with vodka, caramel, chocolate liquor and fresh cream with a lick of sea salt and chocolate dust, served with Bohemein sea salt and caramel-filled chocolate. To complement the sweetness, there’s a range of savoury snacks and cheeses and with live music, it’s the perfect place to enjoy the finer things in life! Follow them on Instagram.
Alice & Fifth – Alice & Fifth is located on the corner of Alice Lane and Fifth Streets in the heart of Johannesburg. This is the place to be if you want glitz & glam. With acrobatic burlesque entertainment, your dining experience will be unique. They are open for lunch and dinner. The menu showcases contemporary African cuisine and there’s a fine selection of cocktails. On your digital touch screen menu, the cocktails tell their own story with images of serpents and The Wolf of Wall Street clearly evoking temptation. The knockout interior is a masterpiece of leather and velvet upholstery, dark wood, rich brass fittings and other opulent touches. Follow them on Instagram.
Maluti Mountain Restaurant – The restaurant in the sky. Situated in the heart of the Maluti Mountains, this is the most scenic restaurant in Lesotho. In summer you get to enjoy your meal while surrounded by crisp mountain air, sounds of waterfalls, birdlife and tranquility. In winter, you enjoy a beautiful view of snow capped mountains while an open fireplace fills the restaurant with warmth and character, setting the perfect mood. The stylish décor, enhanced by an earthy burgundy colour theme, sets the perfect ambience and allows you to forget about the bustling city life by immersing you into a world of peace and tranquillity.
Dishes are creative, unique and are only ever made using the freshest ingredients, their menu changes everyday to ensure this. Gourmet, freshly prepared desserts are guaranteed with an amazing wine list. My absolute favourite is the Lesotho Highlands trout that is prepared fresh from the surrounding river waters, served with fresh seasonal vegetables. Next time you go to Lesotho, make sure you try it out. Follow them on Facebook.
Banchan, Korean Restaurant – Banchan is revered for being the most authentic restaurant when it comes to Korean food. The restaurant is run by a lovely woman named Jamie. She is one of two generations that run the restaurant. The service is always outstanding, and the food is always served hot. Perfect for a group setting or if you wish to dine alone (which is not recommended because the portions are quite large). Whether you are looking for a light lunch or hefty dinner, their menu is a great balance of light and heavy meals. Authentic Korean alcohol is served and each one is more delicious and unique to the other. If you are not sure what an item is, the staff is fully equipped to explain to you what you can expect when receiving your meal. Just when you think your meal highlight has come to an end, they entice your taste buds by referring you to their dessert menu. Tasting their desserts is such a unique and taste titillating experience especially if you are a newcomer to Korean food. Would highly recommend to people who are searching for a taste experience with bold and wholesome foods. Follow on Instagram
